I kept asking her…
“Mom, where did you get the money?”
She tried to change the topic.
But I didn’t stop.
Finally…
She said something I will never forget:
«“I sold the rice I was supposed to eat this week.”»
I went silent.
Completely silent.
My own mother…
Chose to stay hungry…
Just so I could eat.
I couldn’t hold it anymore.
I started crying.
